Description

A delicious recipe for cannelloni stuffed with ground beef and ricotta, topped with béchamel and Parmesan cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large cannelloni tubes
  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 400g canned diced tomatoes
  • 250g ricotta cheese
  • 100g grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 300ml béchamel sauce
  • Olive oil for frying
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until they’re soft and fragrant.
  3. Stir in the ground beef and cook until browned. Break up any large clumps as it cooks.
  4. Add the canned tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and let it simmer for about 10 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly. Stir in the ricotta cheese and half of the Parmesan cheese until well combined.
  6. Using a small spoon or a piping bag, carefully fill each cannelloni tube with the meat mixture.
  7. Spread a bit of béchamel sauce on the bottom of a baking dish to prevent sticking.
  8. Place the stuffed cannelloni in the baking dish in a single layer.
  9. Pour the remaining béchamel sauce over the filled cannelloni, making sure they’re well coated.
  10. Finish by sprinkling the remaining Parmesan cheese on top.
  11. Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 15 minutes, or until bubbling and golden on top.
  12. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the béchamel sauce.
  • Make sure to not overfill the cannelloni to prevent them from bursting during cooking.
