Description

Delicious gourmet ham and cheese croissants made with flaky puff pastry, layered with savory ham, cheddar cheese, and a hint of Dijon mustard.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sheets puff pastry
  • 8 slices sliced ham
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 egg, beaten for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped for garnish
  • to taste black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the Pastry:
    • Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface.
    • Cut each sheet into four equal triangles.
  3. Assemble the Croissants:
    • Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on each triangle.
    • Place a slice of ham and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese on the wider end of each triangle.
    • Season with black pepper to taste.
  4. Roll the Croissants:
    • Starting from the wide end, gently roll each triangle towards the tip to form a croissant shape.
    • Place each croissant on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Egg Wash:
    • Brush the top of each croissant with the beaten egg to give them a golden-brown finish.
  6. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  7. Garnish:
    • Once out of the oven, sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for a burst of color and flavor.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a thin slice of Swiss cheese along with cheddar for a richer profile.
  • Ensure the puff pastry is cold when working with it to maintain its flakiness.
  • Feel free to experiment with other cheese varieties such as Gruyère or mozzarella for different taste combinations.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and gently reheated in a preheated oven to maintain the crispiness.
