What makes Greek Air Fryer Wings stand out?

Greek Air Fryer Wings triumph in not only flavor but in community appeal as well. Their unique marinade blends classic Greek ingredients that are often pantry staples:

  • Olive Oil: This is the heart of the marinade, adding richness and helping the spices adhere to the wings. Opt for a high-quality extra virgin olive oil for that authentic flavor.

  • Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice brings a vital acidity that brightens the dish and balances the richness of the chicken.

  • Garlic: You can never go wrong with garlic! Its aromatic, savory quality complements the other ingredients, prompting you to keep coming back for more.

  • Greek Yogurt: Often underrated, yogurt provides a creamy earthiness that tenderizes the chicken and acts as a perfect marinade base, enhancing flavor and juiciness.

  • Herbs and Spices: With a medley of oregano, thyme, and paprika, the seasoning creates that unmistakable Greek flavor profile, making your taste buds dance.

Each ingredient plays a role in turning simple wings into a culinary experience that celebrates the Mediterranean lifestyle. So, let’s gather the ingredients and dive into this mouthwatering recipe that can elevate any meal into something extraordinary.

  • Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice brightens up the dish and brings that quintessential tangy flavor, reminiscent of sunny Mediterranean afternoons.

  • Garlic: Fresh minced garlic infuses the wings with aromatic warmth. It’s the secret ingredient that elevates every bite.

Tips for Making Perfect Greek Air Fryer Wings

When crafting Greek Air Fryer Wings, nothing beats the harmony of flavor and texture that you can achieve with a few simple tricks. Imagine biting into a decently crispy wing, infused with the delightful essence of Mediterranean herbs. These tips will ensure your wings come out perfectly every time.

Marinate for Maximum Flavor

Marination is key to unlocking that robust flavor profile in your Greek Air Fryer Wings. Aim for at least 30 minutes—though a few hours or overnight is even better. This allows the flavors from the garlic, olive oil, and herbs like oregano to deeply penetrate the chicken.

Get the Right Temperature

Preheating your air fryer is crucial for getting that crispy skin. Set it to around 375°F (190°C) and let it heat for about 5 minutes before adding your wings. This will create a mouthwatering crust that seals in moisture, giving you juicy wings on the inside.

Don’t Overcrowd the Basket

Air circulation is what makes your wings crispy, so resist the temptation to cram too many into the basket at once. A single layer is best, allowing hot air to circulate evenly around each wing. If you have a lot, cook them in batches for optimal results.

Flip for Even Cooking

For flawless wings, flip them halfway through cooking. This ensures that every side gets that heavenly golden color.

By following these straightforward steps, your Greek Air Fryer Wings will impress your friends and family at your next gathering! Enjoy the crunch and flavor that make these wings undeniably irresistible.

How do I make the wings extra crispy?

Achieving that perfect crunch is a game-changer for your Greek Air Fryer Wings. Here are a few tips:

  • Dry the Wings: Pat them dry with paper towels before seasoning. Removing moisture is key.
  • Use Baking Powder: A dusting of baking powder mixed with your seasonings can elevate the crispiness.
  • Don’t Overcrowd: Cook in batches if necessary to allow air circulation, ensuring that each wing gets its time to crisp up.

Can I marinate the wings overnight?

Absolutely! Marinating your Greek Air Fryer Wings overnight not only enhances the flavor but also tenderizes the meat. Just make sure to keep them in the fridge and remove any excess marinade before air frying for the best results.

Storing leftover wings properly allows you to enjoy them later:

  • Refrigeration: Place them in an airtight container, where they can last for up to 3 days.

Description

Delicious Greek-style chicken wings, marinated with lemon, garlic, and oregano, then air-fried to crispy perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 T freshly-grated lemon zest (optional, but recommended)
  • 1 T fresh-squeezed lemon juice (or more if you really like lemon)
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp. minced garlic (or more)
  • 1 tsp. salt (more or less to taste)
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 pound trimmed raw chicken wings (see notes)
  • Whipped Feta Dip with Sumac for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Trim the wings if needed. (We didn’t need to do much trimming for the Kirkland Party Wings we used, but some grocery store wings will need to have excess skin and fat trimmed.)
  2. Zest the skin from a lemon and then squeeze the juice. (Or you can use fresh-frozen lemon juice and skip the zest if you don’t want to buy a lemon.)
  3. Whisk together lemon zest (if using), lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper to make the marinade.
  4. Put the wings and marinade in a large Ziploc bag or plastic container with a snap-tight lid, and let them marinate in the fridge for a minimum of four hours, or marinating them overnight or for eight hours or longer will give more flavor.
  5. When you’re ready to cook, drain the wings into a colander placed in the sink and discard the marinade. (If you don’t want the oily marinade to go down your sink, catch it in a bowl and discard.)
  6. Let wings come to room temperature while you preheat Air Fryer to 400F/205C. (Preheat without the rack in the Air Fryer if you are going to use Air Fryer Parchment Paper, which I recommend.)
  7. Line Air Fryer rack with Air Fryer Parchment Paper if using. Try to arrange wings in the Air Fryer basket so they are not touching each other. (I was able to fit 18 wing pieces in my Cuisinart Air Fryer, but if you have a smaller Air Fryer you may need to cook in two batches.)
  8. Cook wings 8 minutes, or until they are golden-brown on the first side. (Some Air Fryers cook a bit hotter, so I’d start checking after 6 minutes.)
  9. Remove Air Fryer basket and turn wings over (with tongs or a fork so you don’t burn your fingers).
  10. Put basket back into the Air Fryer and cook until the second side is golden brown and wings have reached 165F/75C in the thickest part. (For us that was 6 minutes on the second side, but other Air Fryer models might take a bit more or less time.)
  11. While the wings cook, make the Whipped Feta Dip with Sumac (or other dip or sauce of your choice).
  12. Serve the Greek Wings hot, with plenty of napkins!

Notes

  • For the best flavor, marinate the wings overnight.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of lemon juice and garlic according to your preference.
