Description

A delicious and vibrant Orange Cream Layer Cake that is perfect for any celebration!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Zest of 2 oranges
  • ½ cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 teaspoon orange extract
  • Orange food coloring (optional)
  • Orange zest, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Mix in vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange juice.
  6. Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour. Mix until just combined.
  7. If using, add orange food coloring to tint the batter orange. Divide batter evenly among the three prepared pans.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  10. In a chilled bowl, beat the heavy cream until it forms soft peaks.
  11. Slowly add confectioners’ sugar and orange extract; continue beating until stiff peaks form.
  12. Place one cake layer on a serving platter. Spread a layer of frosting on top. Repeat with remaining layers.
  13. Spread frosting over the top and sides of the cake.
  14. Sprinkle with orange zest for garnish.

Notes

  • Ensure butter and eggs are at room temperature for a smoother batter.
  • Chilling the mixing bowl and beaters helps in getting a better volume while whipping cream.
  • For an intensified flavor, you can add a tablespoon of orange liqueur to the frosting mix.
