Description
Delicious and savory meat-filled pastries, perfect for a hearty meal or snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or lamb
- 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 sheets puff pastry
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Optional: a pinch of chili flakes for heat
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Prepare the Filling: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, sauté until translucent. Stir in mushrooms and cook until softened. Add ground beef or lamb, cook until browned. Mix in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Stir in rosemary, salt, pepper, and optional chili flakes. Simmer until the mixture is thickened. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Prepare the Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a floured surface. Cut circles slightly larger than your pie tins. Place the pastry circles into greased pie tins, pressing gently to fit.
- Fill the Pies: Spoon the meat mixture into each pastry-lined tin. Cover with another pastry circle, sealing the edges with a fork. Make a small slit on top for steam to escape.
- Baking: Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serving: Cool slightly before removing from tins. Serve warm with your choice of sauce or dip.
Notes
- Ensure the filling is cool before placing it in the pastry to prevent sogginess.
- Use a sharp knife to make a clean slit on top of the pies for better steam release.
- Experiment with adding cheese for an extra layer of flavor.
- These pies can be frozen and reheated for a convenient meal.
