Description

A delicious and hearty sandwich featuring thinly sliced roast beef, melted cheddar cheese, and toasted poppy seed rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz thinly sliced roast beef
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 2 poppy seed rolls or buns
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon horseradish sauce (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lettuce leaves and tomato slices (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Rolls: Slice the poppy seed rolls or buns in half. Spread butter lightly on the cut sides of the rolls.
  2. Toast the Rolls: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the buttered sides of the rolls down and toast until golden brown. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Cook the Roast Beef: In the same skillet, warm the roast beef slices for about 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Melt the Cheese: Lay the cheddar cheese slices over the warm roast beef and cover the skillet. Let the cheese melt slightly over the beef for about 1 minute.
  5. Prepare the Spread: In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and horseradish sauce (if using).
  6. Assemble the Sandwich: Spread the mayonnaise mixture on the toasted sides of the rolls. Layer the warmed roast beef and melted cheese on the bottom half of each roll. Add lettuce leaves and tomato slices if desired. Top with the other half of the roll.
  7. Serve: Serve immediately with a side of fries or salad if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding caramelized onions to the sandwich.
  • If you prefer a spicy kick, add a dash of hot sauce to the mayonnaise mixture.
  • Use freshly sliced roast beef from a deli for the best texture and taste.
