Description

Delicious cream cheese wontons filled with a sweet cream cheese mixture and topped with honey and walnuts, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • 6 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons honey, for drizzling
  • 2 tablespoons chopped or halved walnuts
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter or neutral oil (for baking)
  • 12 cups vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. PREPARE THE FILLING: In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, honey, and vanilla extract. Mix with a fork or hand mixer until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy with no visible lumps. Stir in the finely chopped walnuts and powdered sugar if additional sweetness is preferred. The filling should be thick but easy to scoop.
  2. PREPARE THE WONTON WRAPPERS: Place the wonton wrappers on a clean work surface or cutting board. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese filling into the center of each wrapper. Keep the amount small to prevent the wontons from opening during cooking.
  3. FOLD THE WONTONS: Lightly moisten the edges of each wrapper with a small amount of water using your fingertip. Bring all four corners toward the center above the filling and gently pinch them together. Leave small openings between the folds so the edges crisp during cooking. The shape forms a small pouch or star. Triangle or envelope folds also work well.
  4. BAKE THE WONTONS: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the filled wontons on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops lightly with melted butter or oil to help them brown evenly. Bake for 10–12 minutes until the wrappers turn golden and crisp.
  5. FRY THE WONTONS: Heat vegetable oil in a small saucepan or skillet to 350°F (175°C). Carefully place the wontons into the hot oil in small batches. Fry for 1–2 minutes per side until the wrappers become golden brown and crisp. Transfer the cooked wontons to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
  6. FINISH AND SERVE: Arrange the warm wontons on a serving plate. Drizzle honey over the top and sprinkle with chopped walnuts. Add a light dusting of powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm so the crisp shell and creamy filling contrast clearly.

Notes

  • Prepare the filling a day ahead for best flavor.
  • Wontons can be frozen before cooking, just make sure to separate them with parchment paper.
