Description

Delicious Nutella cinnamon rolls with a creamy frosting, perfect for breakfast or dessert!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 4 Tablespoons melted butter (divided)
  • 3/4 cup Nutella
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 2 ounces cream cheese
  • 2 Tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 2 Tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425º F. Spray a 9 inch pie plate with non-stick spray and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a liquid measuring cup, mix together buttermilk and 2 Tablespoons melted butter. Add the milk mixture to the flour mixture and stir until everything is combined and forms a rough dough.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead until just smooth, just a few turns (handle as little as possible for flaky rolls).
  5. Place the ball of dough on a floured surface and gently roll it into a 12×9 inch rectangle.
  6. Spread Nutella in an even layer over the dough. Sprinkle with cinnamon and chocolate chips, leaving about a 1/2 inch border around the edges.
  7. Using a scraper, loosen the dough from the counter and roll it (starting from the long side) into a tight cylinder. Pinch to seal.
  8. Using a sharp knife, cut into 8 equal pieces. Place 1 roll in the center of the prepared pan and arrange the other 7 around it. Brush with the last 2 Tablespoons of butter.
  9. Bake for about 25 minutes until the edges are golden brown. Allow the rolls to rest for 5 minutes before frosting.
  10. To make the frosting, beat together all of the ingredients for the cream cheese frosting until it is smooth and spreadable. Adjust the milk and sugar for desired consistency.
  11. Top the rolls with the prepared frosting and serve.

Notes

  • Ensure the rolls are not overworked to maintain flakiness.
  • Frosting can be adjusted based on preference for sweetness and consistency.
